AMC has cast English actor Andrew Lincoln (Teachers, Love Actually) as small-town cop Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The television series is based on the popular black-and-white Image comic book of the same name, which follows a group of people fighting to survive in an apocalyptic wasteland teeming with flesh-hungry zombies.

“Andrew Lincoln, wow—what an amazing find this guy is," said The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman. “Writing Rick Grimes month after month in the comic series, I had no idea he was an actual living breathing human being, and yet here he is. I couldn’t be more thrilled with how this show is coming together.”

Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Mist) will write, direct and executive produce the survival-horror drama, which is set to premiere in October with a six-episode first season.
