Archaia Studios Press’s roleplaying game, Artesia: Adventures in the Known World has been nominated for the coveted Origins Award for Role-Playing Game of the Year. Based on the award-winning graphic novel Artesia and released in December 2005, Artesia: Adventures in the Known World (ISBN: 1-932386-10-6, $39.95, 352 pages, full-color, 8.5” x 11”) has already garnered praise and a growing legion of fans and is sure to gain even more notice with the nomination.

“Artesia: Adventures in the Know World was essentially a labor of love,” said Mark Smylie, creator of Artesia and both writer and artist of the roleplaying game. “Developing this was something I wanted to do for a long time.  When I created the comic book I envisioned her world as one into which gamers could breathe a different sort of life.  I’ve found it extremely rewarding to hear the positive response from players and reviewers and to see it nominated for an Origins Award alongside games by such stalwart publishers as White Wolf and Eden.”

Using a modified and easy-to-use Fuzion-based roleplaying system as well as an adaptation of R. Talsorian Games’ LifePath character-generation system, Artesia: Adventures in The Known World takes players into the strife-riven realms of the Known World, where war and magic, fantasy and mysticism take center stage as religions, warlords and empires vie for power.  More on the game can be found at http://www.theknownworld.com/main.html.

** “Artesia is a must for fans of the comics and is requisite reading and play for hard-core fans of truly epic high fantasy…It is probably one of the most amazing RPGs ever made.” --James Mishler, Scrye Magazine

** “A beautifully produced RPG with an innovative, elegant game system and an excellent fantasy background…Artesia: Adventures in the Known World starts out with a well-developed, and deep game world [and] supplements that with a solid game system that's well thought-out and elegant.  Style: 5 (Excellent!) Substance: 5 (Excellent!)”-- Shannon Appelcline, www.RPG.net

** “Well built on Mike Pondsmith’s Fuzion System, this may well be the most gorgeous game book I saw all year.” -- Kenneth Hite, GamingReport.com

** “Artesia: Adventures in the Known World is quite a product, with high production quality. The art is superb…this is an impressive campaign guide, a shining example of essentially a one-man design team who has mastered role-playing games as well as comics. Fans of the comic or just those appreciative of games that focus on cultural, religious, and political intrigue definitely have a treasure trove of options here. Take a look and see what the new age may hold.” --Wayne Tonjes, www.GamingReport.com

** “A wonderful, unique, easy-to-play alternative to other fantasy games.” --Michael May, PopThought.com

The Academy of Adventure Game Art & Design, consisting of people of the game development community, initially reviews a broad selection of the year’s best products and shortlists them for various categories in the Origins Awards. Academy experts score their category nominees from 1 (least deserving) to 5 (most). All scores from all members are totaled. The products with the highest vote totals for each award win the designated Origins Award. Between now and May 30, 2006 the general public can also place their votes for the Gamers' Choice Awards. Winners of the 32nd Annual Origins Awards will be announced at the Origins Game Expo in Columbus, OH on Thurs, Jun 29.
