Variety has reported that director Bryan Singer will be back in the saddle for the sequel to this summer’s hit movie, Superman Returns. Singer’s return was widely expected.

Singer, who will direct and produce the sequel, recently inked a deal with Warner Bros. Pictures. The studio hopes the next Superman movie will perform better than Returns did, which grossed over $390 million worldwide, but came with a price tag of $209 million.

The sequel to Superman Returns is still in the planning stages, as work on the script has yet to start and no budget has been set. The only two certainties next to Singer’s involvement are the return of star Brandon Routh, the young actor whom Singer discovered and starred as Superman/Clark Kent, and an increased dose of action, something many felt the first movie lacked.
