Flipping through the many, many, many webcomics out there, it's easy to see to how even successful webcomics become lead astray. The paradox presented by webcomics is the challenge to bring new readers into the fold while furthering the story.

A good example of this achievement is Crimson Dark. Good CGI webcomics are few and far between because the Dreamland Chronicles has set the bar extremely high. But this sci-fi comic does alright by itself. The rendering isn't as sharp or dazzling as Dreamland, but the texture works just well enough.

The real make or break of this particular comic is the conversation - and how plain awkward it is. But as new readers, we want to know more. The strip doesn't end as strongly as it began, but it doesn't have to - I'm already hooked. Even as a twice-a-week webcomic, the result is just as addictive - because of the level of intrigue.

Another comic which has never failed to continuously catch my attention is Shadowgirls by Dave A. Rodriguez and Dave Reynolds. This doesn't surprise me - Rodriguez has already carved a name for himself through the comic Starkweather. And though I'm not entirely sure what's happening here - I'm anxious to find out. That's one sure sign of a strong webcomic.
