When GraphicNovelArt's Carl Wyckaert envisioned a gallery of paintings by the most renowned artists in the (comic) world, little did he realize that it would take him 30 months for all the artists he wanted to participate and to get the paintings done in time the day the Brussels exhibition was scheduled to open.
But, Wyckaert started his adventure, starting with an idea he had for quite some time: "What happens when you ask 10 of the best international artists for their own personal interpretation of a Tarot card?". .You get 10 visually stunning and emotionally challenging views on how each artist sees the future, based on his interpretation of each card in combination with his creative association process.
The Tarot exhibition is currently hosted in Brussels at the Petits Papiers gallery. Carl walked me around the 2-floor gallery as a proud father showing off his children. Every corner of this freshly finished art gallery oozes magic as I wander across the hallways and every piece on the walls tries to dazzle and enlighten me. This is my first time visiting an art gallery, and I feel the urge to go more!
The artist signing took place at Brüsel, a store in a beautiful building and with lots of nice art hanging on the walls. Carl introduced me to David Mack and his girlfriend Rupa. I ended up talking to David about Kabuki, his art and his plans for the near future. He is thinking about doing a new Agent series, but has indeed been planning that for years now. Especially after the meta-Kabuki in Alchemy, I think fans are dying to get back into Kabuki action-style but knowing David he will only do it as he feels compelled to and not sooner. The artists kept coming in and gathered in the back of the store. Miran Kim lit of the room with her black humor. She is just filled with these nice little dark thoughts that make me reminisce about Grey's Anatomy’s Cristina Yang! Soon after, the fans started making their way into the store and the signing was underway. What a great day this turned out to be!
